Transcript: Toys Exhibit – Curator Emily Ruby on Giant Tinker Toys [VIDEO]

Emily Ruby, Curator, Heinz History Center:

Hi, I’m Emily Ruby, curator at the Senator John Heinz History Center and here we are in Toys of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

Now one of my favorite toys growing up were giant tinker toys. My mom’s friend had bought them because she wanted to build shelves out of them but she realized they were too weak for shelves so she dropped them off at our house. We never saw them anywhere else, none of our friends had them, but we loved them. They were our favorite toy. You could make swords out of them. You could build really elaborate forts and houses and that’s what I’m going to do now.

Come visit Toys of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.
