Get in the game at the Sports Museum

When it comes to sports pride and sports history, no other region in the world compares. The Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum tells the stories of Pittsburghers who became champions and champions who became Pittsburghers.

Relive the iconic moments that made them great through hundreds of artifacts and more than 70 interactives in the two-floor museum located inside the History Center. From boxing to baseball, from the sandlots to the professional leagues, your entire family will find something to cheer about.

Hours & Location

The History Center and Sports Museum are open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The Sports Museum is located within the Heinz History Center at 1212 Smallman Street in the heart of Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District.

Free Museum Admission for Teachers This May

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Month, the Heinz History Center and its family of museums will offer free admission for teachers throughout May. All educators – including preschool, K-12, and university teachers – will be admitted without charge from May 1 through May 31.

Educators are strongly encouraged to reserve their spot in advance by registering online. A valid teacher ID and email address must be presented upon arrival. Please note, this offer includes one free admission to each museum, and does not apply to school groups, field trips, or other large groups.

Blue Star Museum

The Heinz History Center, Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, Fort Pitt Museum, and Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village are proud to be Blue Star Museums. From now through Sept. 5, all active-duty military personnel will receive free admission for themselves and up to five family members. The program is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and thousands of museums across the country.
The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military—Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force, members of the Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and up to five family members. Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card for entrance into a participating Blue Star Museum.

Tickets may be purchased in advance online or at the door. Admission includes full access to the History Center and Sports Museum.
