Q&A with Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter

Ruth E. Carter was the first African American costume designer to be nominated for an Oscar in 1992 for her work on “Malcolm X.” She has received Emmy and Academy Award nominations and is the creative force behind the visually stunning fashions in Marvel Studios’ 2018 blockbuster “Black Panther.” We caught up with Carter during a recent visit to the History Center to discuss her work and the African American history she’s brought to life throughout her three-decade career.
