Join archaeologist Allen Quinn on a tour of the Meadowcroft Rockshelter. 

Allen Quinn will lead a behind-the-scenes tour of the Meadowcroft Rockshelter, a National Historic Landmark and the oldest known site of human habitation in North America. As a former graduate student and longtime colleague of Dr. James M. Adovasio, Quinn brings over four decades of experience to this special event.

The tour kicks off with Quinn’s engaging presentation, “Meadowcroft Rockshelter: Past Findings, Current Excavations, Future Directions.” Learn about the remarkable discoveries at this iconic site, where a massive rock overhang sheltered the region’s earliest inhabitants over 19,000 years ago.

About Allen Quinn

Allen Quinn has dedicated over forty years of archaeological research at the Meadowcroft Rockshelter. A former graduate student of Dr. James M. Adovasio at the University of Pittsburgh, Allen later became a faculty member in the Anthropology and Archaeology Department at Mercyhurst University. There, he not only taught but also directed the Cultural Resource Management (CRM) program and collaborated with Dr. Adovasio on numerous excavations ranging from Utah to Ukraine.

Allen’s expertise encompasses Iroquoian archaeology and culture, ceramic technology, archaeological field methods, and the study of early human migration into the New World. Currently, he serves as a Project Archaeologist with StanTec Engineering. He resides with his family in Westfield, NY, where he continues to contribute to the field with passion and dedication.
