The Great State Debate

This homeschool program is for students in grades 7-8.

Students will explore the Fort Pitt Museum’s newest exhibit, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and utilize reproduction maps and documents to prepare for a debate against their fellow students. The debate will focus on which state owns Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.

  • Students will learn about Western Pennsylvania land conflicts.
  • Students will explore exhibits to gather information and evidence to support a viewpoint.
  • Students will participate in a moderated debate.

Registration

This session costs $10 per student. Each class must be registered for individually online. Multiple students may be registered for the same class as part of one registration. Please register online.

This is a drop-off class, but parents and families are welcome to stay on site to visit the Fort Pitt Museum at no additional charge.

If the minimum number of students have not been registered, those registered for the class will be notified and registrations refunded.
