The History Center is open 361 days a year and closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Senator John Heinz History Center:
- Adults: $18
- Senior Citizens (62+): $15
- Retired & Active Duty Military: Receive $2 off of admission
- Students with a valid school ID: $9
- Children ages 6-17: $9
- Access card holders: $1 (can be used for up to four admissions)
- Children ages 5 and under: Free
- History Center Members: Free
All rates include admission to the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, the Detre Library & Archives, and all exhibitions at the History Center. Admission to the Library & Archives is free for researchers with valid school ID, including students, teachers, and staff.
Visitors coming to the History Center solely to use the Library & Archives will not be charged admission; they will be given a special Library & Archives sticker at the Admissions Desk and directed to the sixth floor, where they will sign in.
Additionally, visitors paying full admission at the History Center can present proof of admission to receive free same- and next-day admission at the Fort Pitt Museum and Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village.
The History Center partners with several local universities to provide free admission for its students and free or discounted admission for its faculty and staff.
- CCAC Allegheny Campus only: Students free, faculty and staff $5
- Point Park University: Students free, faculty free
- University of Pittsburgh: Students free during the academic year (August-April)

History Center exhibitions, including the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum and Detre Library & Archives, are fully accessible. A limited number of wheelchairs and baby strollers are available to visitors on a first come, first served basis. Sign language interpreters are available for tours and programs with advance notice to ensure availability. The History Center welcomes all visitors requiring the assistance of service animals.
