Transcript: Vietnam War – The Living Room War

Samuel W Black, director of African American Program at the History Center:

In the home front section of the exhibit, we recreated a 1960s-era living room to talk about the Vietnam War as a television war. It was really the first major military campaign, of the U.S. military, in which a larger media coverage took place, and the presence of television to almost instantaneously bring us news from the battlefront, right into our living rooms. So what people will see when they come visit the exhibit is a makeshift living room with a television broadcasting some news about the Vietnam War both in country as well as what was going on in the United States that included war protests and other kinds of situations.
