50 Years of Penguins Hockey

This exhibit is closed. It ran through December 2017.

As the Pittsburgh Penguins celebrate their fourth Stanley Cup victory, the History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum recently launched a new display honoring 50 years of Penguins hockey.

Featuring hundreds of photos, including many from the pages of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the new display includes iconic images from the team’s first season in 1967 through their history-making run in the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals.

As part of the display, the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum recently unveiled a new life-like figure of Penguins legend Mario Lemieux. The 25-year old Lemieux is shown triumphantly hoisting an exact replica of the Stanley Cup, which features every championship team and player, on the History Center’s fourth floor Campbell Gallery.
