Glamour in the Gilded Age
The Gilded Age wasn’t just unfolding on New York’s Fifth Avenue. It was happening right here in Pittsburgh.
You’re cordially invited to an evening of gilded holiday glamour, where the fashions, fortunes, and fascinating stories of Pittsburgh’s Gilded Age will take center stage.
Presented in partnership with The Frick Pittsburgh, this special holiday program will feature a lively panel discussion exploring the industrial empires, powerful personalities, and changing social dynamics that defined the era.
Panelists include:
- Dawn Brean – Chief Curator and Director of Collections, The Frick Pittsburgh
- Alonna Carter – Associate Curator, Museum of African American History, Heinz History Center
- Kelsie Paul – Director of Learning and Visitor Experience, The Frick Pittsburgh, and host of “The Unofficial Gilded Age Aftershow”
- Emily Ruby – Senior Curator, Heinz History Center
The conversation will also draw connections between Pittsburgh’s history and storylines portrayed in HBO’s award-winning show, “The Gilded Age.”
From the lavish lifestyles of the Carnegies and Fricks to Pittsburgh’s prominent African American families and the experiences of everyday workers, discover what was really happening upstairs, downstairs, and beyond the ballroom.
Visit the new Styling the Gilded Age textile gallery and A.H. Gorson: Painting the Steel City exhibition, before getting hands-on with historic gowns from the museum’s handling collection to explore their rich fabrics, intricate craftsmanship, and elaborate construction.
Sip cocktails, enjoy live music, and put your knowledge of Pittsburgh’s past to the test with an interactive scavenger hunt as you explore the museum after hours.
Gather your friends, add a touch of Gilded Age-inspired glamour to your holiday attire if you wish, and enjoy a festive Friday night out at the museum.

Admission is $5 for History Center members and $10 for non-members. This after-hours event includes full-facility access to the museum. Please register in advance online.
