Have you ever wanted to be part of an exhibit at the Heinz History Center? If so, this may be your chance.
In anticipation of the upcoming #Pixburgh: A Photographic Experience exhibition, museum curators and researchers have been exploring the Detre Library & Archives for great historic images of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.
Inside the exhibit, we’ll provide views of the history of the region—its people, neighborhoods, and events—from the advent of photography in the 1840s through today. While we have many great archival collections and stories to share, we’ve also identified some areas where we could use your assistance in augmenting our current holdings.
Over the next few months, we’ll blog about some of the subjects on which we would like to enhance our collection. We’d appreciate it if you’d help spread the word and let us know if you, your family, or friends have photographs, documents, or other archival material you’d be willing to donate.
Stay tuned for blog posts on the Strip District, outdoor recreation in Western Pennsylvania, saloons, bars, entertainment venues, and more.
