Ice Age Expedition: History Center and Meadowcroft Day Trip
Travel back to the Ice Ages with expert-led tours at the Heinz History Center and Meadowcroft Rockshelter!
The journey begins at the History Center with an exclusive guided tour of Planet Ice: Mysteries of the Ice Ages led by Chief Historian Anne Madarasz. Explore a frozen world transformed by glaciers, changing climates, and the people and animals that adapted to survive.
Then board a motorcoach to Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village in Washington County, where Director David Scofield will lead a private tour of the archaeological site, which preserves evidence of human occupation dating back nearly 19,000 years.
Following the Rockshelter tour, explore Meadowcroft’s historic villages, try your luck at throwing an atlatl, and enjoy the scenic surroundings of the site.

Admission
Admission for this day trip is $75 for Members and $90 for non-members. Your ticket includes admission to the Heinz History Center and Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, motorcoach transportation between sites, and lunch.
The motorcoach will depart the Heinz History Center at 11:00 AM and return by 5:00 PM.
Lunch will be provided upon arrival to the Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village.
Accessibility Note
The Meadowcroft Rockshelter is located within a sandstone cliff face nearly 50 feet above Cross Creek. Access to the site requires climbing 65 steps to the main observation platform, followed by an additional 25 steps to a smaller observation area at the north end of the excavation.
Due to the site’s terrain, this tour is not wheelchair accessible.
