Yes! All visitors ages 17 and under receive free general admission every day at the Heinz History Center, Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, and Fort Pitt Museum, thanks to the Kamin “Free for Kids” Initiative.
Thanks to a transformational gift from longtime supporters Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin, the initiative provides free entry for kids ages 17 and under, year-round, in perpetuity. Kamin “Free for Kids” showcases the Kamin Family’s commitment and dedication to making history accessible for all young learners.
Yes. Children 17 and under still need a ticket for entry, but their admission will be free. We strongly suggest reserving tickets in advance online.
Yes! The Kamin “Free for Kids” Initiative covers admission costs for K–12 school groups visiting on field trips. Teachers and group leaders must book field trips in advance. Learn more about field trips at the History Center and Fort Pitt Museum.
General admission for kids is always free. However, special programs, tours, and add-on experiences may require a fee.

No, adults must accompany all kids ages 17 and under throughout their visit to the History Center, Sports Museum, and Fort Pitt Museum.
No, Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village is not included in the Kamin “Free for Kids” Initiative. Standard admission rates apply.
Yes. Kid-friendly snacks and refreshments can be purchased in the History Center Café, located on the first floor.
Yes. Strollers and diaper bags are permitted within the museum.
Yes. Baby-changing stations are available in restrooms on the first and third floors, as well as in the fifth floor Mueller Education Center.
Visitors are welcome to nurse anywhere they feel comfortable. A private nursing room is located on the sixth floor.
Yes. All exhibition floors are accessible via elevator. Please note, Kidsburgh, located above the cafe in the Great Hall, is only accessible by staircase.
Water fountains are available on the first, second, third floors, and fifth floors.
Yes! When you purchase a ticket to the Heinz History Center, you can use it for free admission to the Fort Pitt Museum the following day. It’s a great way to experience both museums and explore even more of Pittsburgh’s history.
Yes. All galleries are wheelchair accessible, and accessible restrooms are located on floors 1, 2, 3, and 6.
Yes. Free sensory bags are available to borrow from the Museum Shop on a first-come, first-served basis (with ID). Each bag includes fidgets, noise-reducing earmuffs and earplugs, sunglasses, and a flashlight.
Yes. The History Center provides free admission to therapeutic support staff, counselors, doctors, therapists, or nurses accompanying a visitor.
