The America 101 Mobile App

All new U.S. citizens must pass a test that covers topics including American government, history, and geography. Could you pass the exam that contains the basic information our government believes all citizens should know? Try to answer each challenge in our galleries correctly to test your knowledge, solve puzzles, and see yourself in the past using layering of augmented reality objects.

The challenges in the app are all based on the U.S. Naturalization Exam, testing what you know about principles of American democracy, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, American history, and geography.

Explore the History Center’s exhibitions to find connections between Western Pennsylvania history and this core American knowledge, including:

  • Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation: Delve into history from American Indian tribes to the Louisiana Territory and the Civil War as well as the role Pittsburgh innovators have played in American democracy.
  • From Slavery to Freedom: Journey through this powerful story to consider how African American history connects to civic rights and responsibilities and modern American history.
  • Special Collections Gallery: Uncover the past using fascinating objects that represent American history and government.
