Fort Pitt Museum Field Trip FAQs

Yes! Guided and self-guided tours for students are included in the Kamin “Free for Kids” Initiative but are subject to advanced booking and availability. Please note that custom experiences are available at an additional fee. 

We offer two types of experiences: Guided and Self-Guided Field Trips.

  • Self-Guided Tours: Explore at your own pace.
  • Guided Tours: 60–75 minutes with a museum educator.  

Fill out this form and our team will be in touch. All field trips are booked on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability.

All groups must book at least one month in advance. Your reservation is not final until you receive written confirmation from our staff. 

  • Self-guided field trips: Capacity of 10–50 students.
  • Guided Tours: Capacity of 15–75 students.
  • Saturday’s and Sunday’s max group size of 25

You must provide at least 1 adult for every 10 students (1:10 ratio) for both guided and self-guided tours.

Yes! Additional chaperones beyond the 1:10 ratio are welcome, but they must pay regular museum admission. (History Center memberships, excluding Educator memberships, do not apply.)

Yes, one aide per student needing assistance is admitted free of charge. 

No, the Fort Pitt Museum does not provide a lunch space. If needed, lunch spaces can be found in Point State Park.
