The Jewish Encyclopedia of Western Pennsylvania
The Jewish Encyclopedia of Western Pennsylvania is a descriptive record of Jewish history in Western Pennsylvania. Using archival materials found in the collections of the Rauh Jewish Archives, as well as links to other repositories and resources, this online encyclopedia provides basic information about hundreds of Jewish people, families, congregations, organizations, charities, businesses, and events going back to 1755.
The website includes a list of resources and many helpful databases, including synagogue locations, burial records, memorial plaques, and a Squirrel Hill business directory.
The Pittsburgh Jewish Newspaper Project
The Pittsburgh Jewish Newspaper Project provides access to digitized copies of four English langague Jewish newspapers serving Western Pennsylvania: “Jewish Criterion” (1895-1962), the “American Jewish Outlook” (1934-1962), the “Jewish Chronicle” (1962- 2010), and the Y-JCC series, comprised of newsletters of the Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, the Y-IKS, and the Jewish Community Center (1926-1975). This project is a partnership of Carnegie Mellon University Libraries, the Rauh Jewish History Archives, and the Rodef Shalom Congregation Archives.
October 27 Archive
The October 27 Archive documents the local and global impact of the October 27, 2018 attack against three Jewish congregations housed together within the Tree of Life synagogue building in Pittsburgh. It is a living repository, ever-growing to include voices from all over the world. It includes documentation of the local and global response through documents, artifacts, and the Meanings of October 27 Oral History Project.
